On Wells

Wells come in all shapes and sizes and can be found in remote rural locations, tucked away in an urban street, high up on mountains and even in pubs!  Some are thriving, others are abandoned and some gave vanished. This section gives a very brief outline of the fluctuating fortunes of the 300 holy wells that I have visited in County Cork and offers thoughts on:

  • The Water & the cure
  • Saints & Sinners
  • Pilgrimage, Partying &  Paying the Rounds
  • Sacred Trees
  • Blessed Fish
  • Feast Days

A  separate Gazetteer contains basic information about each well visited and includes a map.
